“Culture Shock!” The Performers…

We are so excited to share ArtFront’s latest show “Culture Shock!” with all of you on October 12, 13 & 14, 2017.  Here is a glimpse into the backgrounds of our amazing performers!

WISTY ANDRES

Wisty Andres was born in Tokyo, Japan and has been dancing ever since starting ballet at the age of 7. She is an alumna of Interlochen Arts Academy where she had rich performing experiences in both classical ballets as well as contemporary works. Her studies continued at New World School of the Arts College on Miami, FL. Wisty currently performs with LCTC and has also danced with a broad variety of companies in the Boston area. As a solo artist, she’s adept at collaboration with artists of varying mediums and has already been a featured dancer at the inaugural ArtFront NH event in late spring of 2017. http://www.lorrainechapman.org/coBios.html

LORRAINE CHAPMAN

 Lorraine Chapman is the artistic director of LCTC The Company, one of Boston’s most notable contemporary dance companies. As a nationally recognized choreographer, Chapman has won numerous awards including a Boston Dance Alliance Rehearsal and Retreat Fellowship and a Brother Thomas Fellowship, a $15,000 award from The Boston Foundation. She earned the distinction of being featured in Dance magazine’s prestigious “25 To Watch” segments. As a dancer, Chapman was a member of Ballet British Colombia and later, Eliot Feld/NY as well as dancing for numerous Boston-based choreographers. THEO MARTEY & THE AKWAABA ENSEMBLE

Theophilus Nii Martey is a master percussionist and teacher whose studies began during his childhood in Ghana. He formed the Akwaaba ensemble over 17 years ago and they’ve since been performed throughout the US, Canada, Ireland and UK. The name Akwaaba means welcome in the Twi language and the goal of these extraordinary performers is the bring great music and dance that enlightens audiences about African Culture and Music. The Akwaaba ensemble features the “ rich and subtle rhythmic patterns and styles specific to different tribal groups in West Africa”. Immediately after working with ArtFront NH, Martey and the Akwaaba Ensemble will be presented at Jacob’s Pillow, the legendary dance festival in Western Massachusetts.   http://www.akwaabaensemble.com

DEO MWANO and MOVEMENT FROM ABOVE

Deo Mwano is an innovative choreographer and dancer whose unique style incorporates fusion jazz, street jazz, African dance and hip hop. Layered upon that is a highly personal movement vocabulary leading to deeply articulate choreography. Mwano is the artistic director of Movement From Above and as a solo performer, he leads workshops and performs throughout the US. Alternatively, Deo holds a BA in International Relations and a MBA in strategic leadership; which he uses in his role as a Motivational Speaker. His many years of experience collaborating with international organizations and with immigrants from all over the world give him a clear awareness of the dynamics and challenges of working with varied cultures. Drawing from his personal experience, Mwano helps people to confront biases and develop a dialogue leading to increased respect for the diversity inherent within the human family. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=c3YCRSpv_-o&feature=youtu.be
